San Felipe
This model ship of the San Filipe is based on the design of a Spanish Galleon built in the 1500s. Galleons were a class of blue-water sailing ship that combined the easy-to-manoeuvre fore and aft rig of smaller boats with the square rig of late Middle Ages cargo vessels.
The San Filipe was used primarily in the Pacific Ocean, transporting cargo from the Philippines to Acapulco in Mexico and thus was known as a Manila Galleon.
In 1596, late in the season, San Filipe set sail from Manila but was hit by two typhoons. Damaged, the captain decided to sail for Japan for a refit. During the voyage she was hit by a third typhoon and lost all her sails. Drifting, the San Filipe finally made it to the Japanese coast, but was made to sail further down the coast where she was wrecked on a sandbar

The anchors, guns, decorations, and other intricate details are fashioned from metal and timber. The Sails are hand sown.
