This model of the Royal Louis is based on the ship of 1780.

Royal Louis was a 110 gun, 3 deck ship of the line built for the French Royal navy and launched in 1780. She was named for the reigning monarch of the time, Louis XVI, who incidentally was the last king of France before the fall of the monarchy.

Through her short history Royal Louis took part in two battles, not engaging in one and being attacked and totally demasted in the second. In 1792 she was renamed Républicain and it was under this name that the ship was attacked by the British. On her final voyage in 1794 she took part in the Croisiere du Grand Hiver. As the fleet exited Brest harbour, she ran aground with the loss of 10 men. Her crew abandoned ship, and the wreck was destroyed in a violent storm a few days later.

This model ship is entirely handmade by skilled and experienced craftsmen, using the plank on frame construction method. No kits are used in the making of this model. The anchors, guns, decorations, and other intricate details are fashioned from metal and wood. The Sails are hand sown. High-quality wood such as rosewood, ebony, black wood and mahogany wood are used in the construction.

To protect the ship from damage during transport we remove the sails. When you receive your ship, simply insert the masts, tighten the rigging and watch your ship come to life.
