France II was a 5-mast steel barque French sailing ship. She was launched in 1912 and owned by the Société Anonyme des Navires Mixtes. At the time, the ship was the second largest commercial merchant sailing ship ever built. France II had the greatest cargo carrying capacity of her time, at 5,633 gross register tons.

Originally sailing with two diesel engines this model ship represents the France II after 1919 when the engines were removed. Her "three-island" deck-line was impressive, with an extremely long poop deck (similar to sail training ships), forecastle, and midship island, leaving only two short open upper deck sections, each containing one of her vast loading hatches.

In 1922 the ship met her fate going aground on the Teremba reef, northwest of New Caledonia. Due to the high costs of salvage, she remained there until 1944 when the wreckage was used as target practice by the US military.

This France II model ship is built on scale from the original plan, then drawn up and painted by referencing actual photographs to ensure the best accuracy. This model ship is entirely handmade by skilled and experienced craftsmen, using the plank on frame construction method. No kits are used in the making of this model. The anchors, guns, decorations, and other intricate details are fashioned from metal and timber. The Sails are hand sown. High-quality wood such as rosewood, ebony, black wood and mahogany wood are used in the construction.

To protect the ship from damage during transport we remove the sails. When you receive your ship, simply insert the masts, tighten the rigging and watch your ship come to life.
