The Amerigo Vespucci is a tall ship of the Marina Militare, named after the explorer Amerigo Vespucci. Originally built in 1930, she still sails today. In fact, she undertook a voyage around the world in 2002.

She is the second of two training ships inspired by the style of large late 18th century 74-cannon ships of the line. During World War II, most of her training cruises were in European waters, however she has also sailed to North and South America, and navigated the Pacific.

The Amerigo Vespucci often takes part in sailing parades and Tall Ships' Races, where she is in amicable rivalry with the Gorch Fock.

You may have had the opportunity to walk the decks of the Amerigo Vespucci on one of her many public tours. If you have walked her decks then this is surely the model for you.

A bit of trivia for you! While sailing the Mediterranean Sea in 1962, the American aircraft carrier USS Independence flashed the Amerigo Vespucci with the light signal asking: "Who are you?" The full-rigged ship answered: "Training ship Amerigo Vespucci, Italian Navy." The Independence replied: "You are the most beautiful ship in the world." In 2022 the Amerigo Vespucci sailed by the American aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, which saluted the ship and commented: "You are still, after 60 years, the most beautiful ship in the world."

This model ship is entirely handmade by skilled and experienced craftsmen, using the plank on frame construction method. No kits are used in the making of this model. The anchors, guns, decorations, and other intricate details are fashioned from metal. The Sails are hand sown. High-quality wood such as rosewood, ebony, black wood and mahogany wood are used in the contruction.

To protect the ship from damage during transport we remove the sails. When you receive your ship, simply insert the masts, tighten the rigging and watch your ship come to life.
